Trail Description:
One of the real treasures of the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Linn Cove Viaduct was a 10 million dollar project that was finally approved for funding by Congress which completed the last link of the parkway in 1979. Linn Cove Viaduct is 1,243 feet long, built of 153 segments, only one of which is straight.
The Linn Cove Viaduct was built in such a way to have a minimal impact on the environment. Carefully nestled on the slope of Grandfather Mountain, thet Viaduct offers motorists phenomenal views of the appalachians! This is an absolutely MUST SEE on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the nice thing about it is that you really don't have a choice! :)
The Linn Cove Viaduct Access Trail meanders for a short easy distance under the bridge, and offers a couple spots that give you the same breathtaking view from above, only here you can stop and savor the vistas. There is a rock that you can climb up (only a few feet, very easy..) and sit practically level with the bridge itself. Pedestrians are not allowed on the viaduct.
